Facts Tell, Stories Sell: How to Storify Data and Information to Get Your Point Across

Presented by: Lori Silverman

How do you help business leaders effectively communicate a data-driven business case? Or get additional resources from stakeholders when they don't fully grasp the facts? How do you keep people energized and engaged while sharing a bunch of numbers and figures? How do you turn a pile of statistical information into something that's meaningful — that gets people to understand what you're trying to convey?

It’s not enough to wrap graphics and fancy visualizations around data and deliver them in a slick package. All data has a voice. Someone has to extrapolate meaning from it — and then transform this meaning into a compelling story that moves people to take action. The reaction you want to strive for is, “I get it! This is how this data (or information) relates to me. I now know what to do.”

In this workshop, you'll learn how to storify data and information to more quickly get your point across to get the action that’s needed.

Learning Objectives:

  • Determine what a specific set of data/information is trying to tell you and others — its meaning.
  • Create a compelling story from the data/information's meaning
  • Decide on a story structure that best suits what you're trying to convey so people are moved to take action.
