Facts Tell, Stories Sell: How to Storify Data and Information to Get Your Point Across
Presented by: Lori Silverman
How do you help business leaders effectively communicate a data-driven business case? Or get additional resources from stakeholders when they don't fully grasp the facts? How do you keep people energized and engaged while sharing a bunch of numbers and figures? How do you turn a pile of statistical information into something that's meaningful — that gets people to understand what you're trying to convey?
It’s not enough to wrap graphics and fancy visualizations around data and deliver them in a slick package. All data has a voice. Someone has to extrapolate meaning from it — and then transform this meaning into a compelling story that moves people to take action. The reaction you want to strive for is, “I get it! This is how this data (or information) relates to me. I now know what to do.”
In this workshop, you'll learn how to storify data and information to more quickly get your point across to get the action that’s needed.
- Determine what a specific set of data/information is trying to tell you and others — its meaning.
- Create a compelling story from the data/information's meaning
- Decide on a story structure that best suits what you're trying to convey so people are moved to take action.
