Organization are increasingly leveraging agile practices and "The Agile Extension to the BABOK® Guide, version 1.0" has helped position BA Professionals for success.  However much has changed since this was published in 2013.  This session describes how organizations have leveraged agile business analysis practices to create better business outcomes and how the Agile Extension is changing to ensure even greater future success.

In this session we will:

  • Discuss the importance of developing an "agile" mindset
  • Discuss the lessons learned from utilizing "The Agile Extension to the BABOK® Guide, version 1"
  • Identify the latest evolution of practices that BA professionals can leverage for success in the "agile" world.

As a recognized leader, Alain is a senior management professional with over 20 years of experience in both IT and business. Throughout Alain's career, he has established and managed strategies, standards and practices covering various areas of business analysis, project management and change management.

Prior to joining IIBA as Acting President and CEO in 2013, Alain was a committed volunteer with the organization for seven years. During this time, Alain was Chair of the Board, Vice-Chair of the Board, Chair of the Nominations Committee, and held several positions in the areas of strategic planning, marketing and communications.

In Alain's previous roles at BMO Financial Group, Alain provided leadership and functional management to a team of professionals that managed the enterprise processes for project management and business analysis, as well as supporting strategic and operational improvements initiatives. For over 16 years, Alain owned a small consulting firm in the food and hospitality industry.

As a Member of the Senior Leadership Team at IIBA, Alain oversees the organization's corporate and business development, which includes strategic engagements and alliances with organizations, governments, academia and professional associations. Alain is a proud member of the business analysis community and is committed to further building the recognition of the profession.

Mary Gorman, a leader in business analysis and requirements, is Vice President of Quality & Delivery at EBG Consulting. Mary coaches product teams, facilitates discovery workshops, and trains stakeholders in collaborative practices essential for defining high-value products. She speaks and writes for the agile, business analysis, and project management communities. Mary is co-author with Ellen Gottesdiener of Discover to Deliver: Agile Product Planning and Analysis.

A Certified Business Analysis Professional™, Mary helped develop the IIBA®’s A Guide to the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge® v2.0 and the first CBAP certification exam.  She also served on the task force that created the PMI Professional in Business Analysis (PMI-PBA)® Examination Content Outline.

With over 30 years’ experience working across a wide variety of industries, Shane Hastie is the Chief Knowledge Engineer and Agile Practice Lead for Software Education (www.softed.com) a training, coaching and consulting company working in Australia, New Zealand and around the world. Shane works extensively in the overlap between business analysis and agile development practices — actively working to bridge the perceived gaps between these communities.

He is the Director of the joint Agile Alliance and IIBA® program which produced the Agile Extension to the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge™ and is one of the core team revising the Extension in 2016. He was a member of the Core Team producing BABOK™ 3.0.

In 2011 Shane was elected as a Director of the Agile Alliance (www.agilealliance.org).
