Data modeling is becoming a necessary skill for today’s business analysts due to the fact it is an information driven world and many projects have a significant data requirements component. Data modeling is an analysis technique used by business analysts in order to understand (model) the business data environment, which will be used to define the design data models which are the basis for the actual database.
In this presentation participants learn various data modeling tools and techniques using both Information Engineering tools (ERDs) as well as UML tools (class diagram). The advantages and disadvantages of each will be discussed as well as appropriate uses. Finally, participants will be guided by way of a hands-on case study where they will perform entity/class analysis, noun analysis using use cases and user stories, and data diagram construction.

Learning Objectives:

  • Ability to construct data models
  • Ability to perform entity/class analysis
  • Understand data modeling concepts
