Shifting from Process to Practice: Developing a Center of Excellence

In 2015, GameStop’s technology delivery team was in a critical state. Our internal stakeholders had lost confidence in our established process of bringing an idea to implementation. We knew we needed to identify the issues that brought us to this point and learned that project requirements were not clearly defined, technology portfolios were viewed as independent silos, and stakeholders & delivery teams were misaligned on outcomes.
The organization had a choice: continue, reinforce or augment what we were already doing or make a change. We made a change.
In this session, we will walk through the challenges we faced in transformation from a siloed, task-focused methodology to a cross-functional, business-value focused business analysis approach and its impact on the technology delivery practice within GameStop.

Kris Torres is currently the Senior Manager for Business Analysis at GameStop focused on developing a strong business analysis practice across the technology organization. Prior to joining GameStop she was a development leader at Young Presidents' Organization and at Accenture focused on custom software development for a wide range of industries.
Kris is a Certified Scrum Master, the Co-Chair for Programs with the North Texas Network of Executive Women, and an active Member of IIBA® and the University of Texas at Austin McCombs MIS Steering Committee.
In her spare time, Kris sings and is a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators.
