Artificially Intelligent Compliance and Policy Management
Presented by: Paul Haley
Recent advances in natural language understanding have produced dramatic improvements in the process of analyzing policies and regulations. People can now easily translate laws, regulations, contractual language, and enterprise policies from English into precise, unambiguous formal knowledge. Such knowledge is more robust and comprehensive than is typically achieved by even painstaking and highly skilled analysis. Several examples will be given of English in its fully natural and unconstrained form being understood through collaborative human and artificial intelligence interpretation to the point of producing formal logic in less than a minute that would typically require an hour or more of highly skilled analysis, reformulation, and expression using commercial policy automation or decision management offerings. Together with recent advances in reasoning technology, such knowledge will be shown to implement the original text more robustly than is typically obtained and aspects of the semantics of business vocabulary and rules (SBVR) that are beyond commercial capabilities.
- assess the impact of AI advances on IT
- comply with governing policies and regulations
- disambiguate English policies and rules
Mr. Haley developed the first commercial knowledge-based systems and inference engines at Carnegie Mellon and Inference Corporation.
At Inference, he led the development of the Automated Reasoning Tool, the ancestor of most popular rule languages today.
At Intelligent Technology, Mr. Haley combined inference with natural language understanding and machine learning for program trading.
At Haley Systems, he developed the fastest inference engine available and the first capable of running large knowledge-based systems on PCs.
Gartner declared Haley the visionary leader in automating business logic by translating from English in ways Forrester declared most accessible to non-technical stakeholders.
Since Oracle acquired Haley Systems, he has developed more advanced natural language understanding and reasoning technology and worked with Paul Allen, Intel, HP, Knewton, and others.
